Opening post

Liton Das to captain in the one-off Test. Bangladesh has named an otherwise full strength Test squad minus the injured Shakib. No surprise inclusions.

Musfik Hasan and Shahadat Hossain earn their maiden call ups.

Will be interesting to see if the rain stays away in Dhaka. However temperatures have been in the 38-40 degree range for several weeks now with no let up in sight.

Even in Sylhet, the temps have been threatening 40 degrees this summer.

Rajshahi, which just hosted a series vs Pakistan U-19 is hitting 42 every day!!!

Don't Afghanistan have a 100% win record against you lot in Tests 😂

Yes indeed! This should be a very difficult series especially with the heat and humidity.

Bangla boys will win comfortably. They've usually done well against the Afghans except for that shock test defeat.

SLs series win over Afghanistan once again shows why the ODI Super League, while an excellent concept was implemented so poorly that I don't mind it was scrapped. The level of opponents was so random that Afghanistan got through without breaking a sweat and without even playing 3 of their 8 Super league series'. That's ridiculous.

Rashid Khan is being rested from the Test. Unfortunate, but he did just come back from a lower back injury and you never wanna f**k with that. AFG are loaded with wrist spinners tho, so I wonder if they will field another leggie or wristy in his place.

No Rashid Khan for Afghanistan. No Shakib al Hasan or Tamim Iqbal Khan for Bangladesh. This will be a big Test for both teams.

The wicket is expected to be a greentop in Mirpur!

Bangladesh in full control after day 1.

Brilliant hundred from Shanto. Sloppy bowling from the afghans. 15 no balls in just 79 overs!!!

Chaotic first session.

With Mushy and Miraz well settled, I thought 400 is a certainty and 450 was on, and if we really do well 500. Ended up losing 5 for 20. Credit to the Afghans.

But the Bangladesh seamers have struck back on what is surely the most helpful HOME track we've ever had in 23 years of Test cricket. Quicks creating a couple of chances almost every over. Afghans are 3 down in 10 odd overs...going to be a tough ask for them.

Overall its great to be doing this without Shakib and Tamim. Giving an opportunity to the next generation to do well and win games for the country.

Shanto's 146 is looking a lot better now than it did...tough feat given the quality of the innings.

Well done to Shanto...he reaches 112 not out at lunch. Just the 2nd Bangladesh player to score two centuries in a single Test. He's really in some form in all formats!

I had said somewhere on this forum that 2023 was going to be the make or break year for Shanto...really looks like he's making it! With the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up, the timing couldn't be better.

Shanto is in unbelievable form. He has been Bangladesh's most most consistent batter in last 12 months.

A lead of 600+ and still going. Afghans are getting shredded here.

Depending on how much heart the Afghans have, this could be Bangladesh’s biggest win in terms of runs.

Beating Afghanistan without Rashid isn’t that special
ZCF OriginalZCF Hall of Famer
With or without Rashid, the Afghans aren't in the WTC, so we have no option but to beat them.

Part of the legitimacy of the WTC rests on the idea that even the lowest ranked side (Bangladesh) should be able to comfortably beat the non-WTC sides. Since starting our WTC campaign in October 2019, Bangladesh has smashed all the non-WTC sides (assuming we beat Afghanistan by 200+ runs here), with the exception of Ireland, who we only beat by 7 wickets or something like that. But there were points were we were dominating the Irish too.

546 run win in the end...3rd largest in terms of runs! I don't think I've seen a margin as big as that in terms of runs in the modern era.

Can't really expect much more given Afghanistan's last Test was 2 years ago.

Afghanistan shredded.

Nazmul Hosain Shanto is someone to keep watch on for the World Cup. Bangladesh have looked good lately. Very good.

The funny thing is, if Bangladesh played 4 spinners like we did in 2019, Afghanistan would have competed much better.
