Well they really seem to be at the cross roads with a mass player overhaul seemingly very near, Morkel has already announced he's done whilst Steyn keeps breaking down, Amla isn't up to batting @3 anymore, ABDV will probably quit after the WC and Duminy has already retired from tests.
The Quota system is definitely taking effect with 4 Black guys playing tests this summer whilst Zondo & Dala also played the limited overs matches, the drain of quality white players to County cricket has hurt their depth though and if we are to see Amla, ABDV, Steyn, Morkel, Duminy and maybe Philander disappear by 2019 what will the side look like and will they be competitive ???
Markram has emerged and will likely captain the side after the World Cup and De Bruyn looks to be the future No.3 despite little product so far in tests. Bavuma will likely come back into the side also but the fact the selectors disregarded the Quota target and picked De Bruyn ahead of shows they don't really think he's up to it.
Klassen showed he is a good player so we might see QDK give up the gloves at play as a specialist batsman whilst Wiaan Mulder is the allrounder they've been crying out for since Kallis retired. CSA desperately need Elgar & Faf to hang around around after the Wc if those above mentioned players do retire to try and guide these youngsters as they find their feet in Test cricket.

Yea, good points as usual Jaybro. However having watched the recently concluded Mzansi Super League I was pleasantly surprised at the talent on show. I honestly can’t think of all the names but there must have been 5 or 6 young black fast bowlers throughout the League that hit 85mph regularly. De Zorzi with the bat really impressed me as well and should be looked at for the LOI games of the England tour.
The black talent is there, it just needs fine tuning like Ngidi and Rabada have had done to them. Bavuma I still say is bang average, nor do I like his stinking attitude of being the golden boy of black South Africa. It’s been nearly 5 years since his last test century for god sake.
I’ve said it early but kids like Breetzke, Van Tonder, Verreynne, Malan Jnr are 10 times the players Bavuma will ever be.

No doubt there is talent there and as you say it's all about nurturing the talent and developing the players, letting Bavuma collect Test caps like their bottle caps isn't helping anyone.

Smith has really sent some shockwaves through the system since his appointment. Van Der Dussen and Pieter Malan have been preferred and rightly so!
I do worry about what the black South African community will say to this. They’ll miss their transformation targets yet again in this game.

I don't get what the fuss about Aiden Markram is, he always seems to struggle against quality attacks. Malan looks like a much better option. Markram needs to go and score lots of runs domestically.
