Thought I should change this into the match thread for the first match so we've got a place to discuss the lead up to the series.

Uganda takes on Zimbabwe today and a Nairobi provincial side tomorrow in the other ties.


After what we did to Canada in 20 overs, surely 400+ would be on the cards from 50 overs, particularly if Masakadza can stay at the crease for 30+ overs. (unless the batsmen decide they want crease time that is)

great innings. Masakadza to start us off was great. Taibu and Chibabaha to keep that work going was good. And good contributions to Matsikenery and Chigumbura.

just need our bowlers to bowl well now.

The only time Zimbabwe has scored over 300 batting first and lost was over 15 years ago against Sri Lanka

utseya and Chigumbura i rekon is a good move for opening bowlers. Mpofu be more effective once the powerplays go

I don't agree with Utseya opening the bowling, it is a defensive tactic. We've got 300 odd runs on the board, we should start with Mpofu and Chigumbura, we need to play with an attacking mindset.

In a Twenty20 or maybe a low scoring ODI, then you can roll the dice with a move like this... but it's so strange to do it when we are in such a good position.

Having said all that, it looks like the move has paid dividends. Perhaps it is a wicket for spinners like the ones in Canada were :)

I can see Chibhabha getting a bowl soon. He's our only other fast bowling option, maybe we can get away with it against Ireland.
