Opening post

Thought I should change this into the match thread for the first match so we've got a place to discuss the lead up to the series.

Uganda takes on Zimbabwe today and a Nairobi provincial side tomorrow in the other ties.

After what we did to Canada in 20 overs, surely 400+ would be on the cards from 50 overs, particularly if Masakadza can stay at the crease for 30+ overs. (unless the batsmen decide they want crease time that is)

Uganda: J. Olwenyi, D. Arinaitwe, B. Musoke, J. Sebbanja, E. Nakaana, C. Waiswa, A. Seiga, F. Nsubuga, R. Otim, L. Sematimba, R. Daniel, A. Kyobe, R. Mukasa, A. Baig

And Maruma strikes!

Back from lunch. Seems I missed quite a bit...

I was doubtful about the Utseya / Chigumbura opening combination as well, but it certainly seems to have worked. Price is being his usual miserly self, too. Looking good...

the bowlers so far have bowled really well,

2/14 from 4.1 for Maruma. With the asking rate at 8.98 it's just a formality from here on in... hopefully that means bowling them out and not allowing them to bat out the full 50 overs.

It's hard to tell without seeing it, but my guess is that Ireland's bowling and batting has been below par today, I was expecting it to be closer than this. Let's see how we go against Kenya.

Mind you, if Ireland were playing well today it means Zimbabwe is more than a cut above the associates... I guess what I'm trying to say is that it would be nice if today's performance was because Zimbabwe were playing well, and not because Ireland are poor.

And Maruma gets another wicket. 6/72

2 wickets to Murama good effort by him :)

AR Cusack c & b Maruma 5

And another for Timycen. Not bad at all.

RW Price (sla) 5.0 2 5 0 1.00

I'm beginning to think the wrong person has been nicknamed "Dots"...
If we bowl Ireland out for 100 or less, it will be Zimbabwe's largest ever ODI victory.

Previous best was a 202 run win over Kenya.

On an indignant side-note, I see Price doesn't feature in the current ICC Top 100 ODI Bowlers rankings. I'd like to know why.

Because statistically he isn't a very good ODI bowler. Good economy rate, but not a wicket taker. He averages 60 odd with a strike rate of something similar. Have a look at http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/eng ... e=allround - if he can get more wickets, I have no doubt he would be in the list. I'm sure if there was a T20I list he would be in the top 25.

This would of been a good game to watch, pity there was no stream.

This is one of those cases where the statistics are misleading. Yes, it's accepted that taking wickets is necessary in ODIs, but an economic bowler - especially at the rate that Price is managing at the moment - helps up the pressure on the batsmen at the crease, forcing them to take risks to keep the run-rate going. Those risks lead to wickets, and Price should be given credit for that even if he's not the one to get his name against them.

Rant over. :)
