Opening post

Fixtures:

Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe - King City - October 10

Canada v Zimbabwe - King City - October 11

Pakistan v Zimbabwe - King City - October 12

Zimbabwe squad: Prosper Utseya (c), Regis Chakabva (wk), Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Elton Chigumbura, Graeme Cremer, Keith Dabengwa, Timycen Maruma, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Christopher Mpofu, Tawanda Mupariwa, Taurai Muzarabani, Raymond Price, Tatenda Taibu (wk), Cephas Zhuwawo.

Weather: Friday (19°C | 5°C), Saturday (21°C | 9°C), Sunday (23°C | 10°C)

My predictions are that we will beat Canada quite convincingly, and not embarrass ourselves against Pakistan or Sri Lanka. We are capable of producing an upset (although it will be hard without our proven T20 performers Taylor and Sibanda) but if we do it will be the result of good bowling, as it was against Australia. With no Gary Brent we lose a good economic bowler, so we have to hope that Mupariwa will fill that gap and that Chigumbura will be the wicket taker he normally is.

I don't think this batting lineup is capable of more than 120 runs against decent opposition (but 140 with Taylor, 150 with Taylor and Sibanda), so that has to be the target for the bowlers to restrict the opposition to. Stuart Matsikenyeri must step up. He's been on the scene for what, 6 years now? He's done next to nothing in that time... I feel that his reputation has been carrying him for some time (ie. he made the 2003 World Cup squad with the likes of Andy & Grant Flower, Heath Streak etc, then he must be good) and he needs to start letting the bat do the talking.

Obviously Hamilton Masakadza is the key batsman, followed by Chamu Chibhabha who I think will do well batting at his preferred number three position again. Taibu has a lot hanging over his head, and while he is a good ODI and Test player, he has performed poorly in both the IPL and the T20 International's he's played. It would be nice to see him slaughter the opposition, perhaps score a century (against Canada, this is a real possibility for the entire top order - especially Masakadza) but as maehara said in another thread, it's pretty unlikely.

Now, my prediction for the Sri Lanka game: Taibu, Masakadza, Chibhabha, Matsikenyeri, Chakabva, Dabengwa, Chigumbura, Utseya, Price, Mupariwa, Mpofu

Marumisa made the ICC World Twenty20 squad but didn't play, I think this will be the case for Zhuwawo to an extent. Play Sri Lanka with the best possible team (and if we win, play the same team against Pakistan), but play Zhuwawo against Canada (probably in place of Dabengwa) and again against Pakistan for the experience if we lost the Sri Lanka game.

So who said 140 would be a good score? :)

::feeling much better now::

Notice Stuey failed to impress again, though...

Boom Boom's living up to his nickname.. :)

..aaaand the forum curse strikes. I'll shut up now...

18.5 Balaji Rao to Chigumbura, OUT, slog sweep straight into his hands

E Chigumbura c & b Balaji Rao 25 (9b 3x4 2x6) SR: 277.77

Chigumbura now out going for another big shot, but with 25 off 10 it's safe to say he did his job.

Dabengwa at the crease now, can he finish his series off on a high? Hopefully we can score a few runs off this final over.

Dabengwa scored 16 off the over

Well, for once there was no collapse! Great confidence booster this, for all the batsmen before the tri-series. Dabengwa has booked his ticket for a few more series for sure...

One good performance out of 4 matches seems to be about his usual form...

Masakadza must get the man of the series award here. He is in sensational form. Cant wait to watch him in Kenya.

Dabengwa it seems has finally earned his money, Do people really think he has turned the corner though??, He had a moderate score against Pakistan as well but hasnt done anything since, He's too inconsistent for me

Does anyone know if the kenya/Ireland match will be streamed?

He's pulled ahead of Matsikenyeri now, so it looks like Stuart will be making way for Chakabva in the 1st ODI of the tri series. By no means has he turned the corner though, he had one good over... the only shot which he intended was the six, both fours were edges down to third man from memory?

Masakadza would have to be in the running for man of the series. Cheema, Butt, Mendis and Gul will also be up there I'd think. Maybe Ray Price as a smokey if he does a bit of damage in the Canadian innings.

Too early to know if the Kenya series will be streamed.

Managed to watch the Zim innings before i set off for work, even if it is my most hated form of cricket i rather enjoyed it !

At last, more than one batsman hitting form in a game. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Hamilton, he is, at the very least, just as good, if not better, than a lot of kolpak players 'gracing' the English county scene.

With a bit more experience and know how, this innings should have been 200+, but a very good effort indeed.

Perhaps i'm not so lacking in confidence for the future after all.

Hopefully the bowlers can do their bit now, with Cremer joining Price and Utseya the Canadians are going to have to chance their arms to get near a winning score.

Fingers crossed for a good win and some confidence going into the Kenyan series.

Price is all charged up! I loved his follow through.

Great fielding by Mpofu, and now he has a wicket too...

Being very economical, too. Ideal start to the innings for Zim...

Internet is playing up for me :(

What happened with Price?
ZCF OriginalZCF Hall of Famer
Price is almost reaching the batsman with his follow through, not to forget his steely look. And now he has got a wicket too.

Wicket maiden - don't see too many of them in T20, and Cheema was Canada's danger man. Dare we consider this tied up already?

Not exactly 24 hours and Utseya's World Record seems in danger

...until Price comes along and bowls two in a row. The man is a legend.

This is how Zimbabwe should play against a team like Canada.

This is good cricket.
